“My practice is based on evidence-based diagnosis and treatment of emotional and behavioral problems using an integrative approach. As a psychiatrist, I am also a medical doctor and feel it is important to approach patient care as holistically as possible, keeping in mind non-psychiatric medical diagnoses, and potential nutritional and hormonal contributions to a patient’s condition. I like to understand my patients in terms of their individual family backgrounds, childhood environments, unique cultural customs and personal lifestyles because — while we all have genetic predispositions — environmental stressors are what often trigger the expression of many illnesses. By approaching each patient from an integrative point of view, I can address patients’ specific biological imbalances and coping difficulties with techniques and therapy that are personalized and specific, such as physical exercise, nutritional changes, light therapy, talk therapy, non-invasive brain stimulation techniques and medication.” -- Kira Stein, MD

I chose psychiatry as my medical specialty because I thoroughly enjoy both the science of medicine and the application of psychotherapy – both effective tools that can be used independently or in combination to achieve emotional wellness. l am also very interested in the use of supplements (such as omega-3 fatty acids, certain herbs, vitamins and minerals), relaxation techniques and exercise in the management of mental health.”  -- Kira Stein, MD
